TALCB and Pearson VUE announce licensing exam centers to slowly re-open around the state after swift closure in March in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. TALCB partners with Pearson VUE to offer licensing examinations. Pearson VUE operates both company-owned exam sites and third party sites. TALCB has authorized the use of all Pearson VUE third party sites to expand exam capacity during this unprecedented time. New Rules for ACE Providers and Courses

TALCB has adopted rules that require ACE providers to become licensed by the agency and to submit courses directly to TALCB for pre-approval. Although these rules are effective on September 1, 2019, ACE provider and course application forms are available for immediate use to give providers ample time to prepare for these changes. AQB Criteria Changes Effective May 1, 2018

The Appraisal Qualifications Board (AQB) adopted changes to the education and experience criteria for real property appraisers with an effective date of May 1, 2018, and the Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board adopted rules to implement these changes in Texas to coincide with the AQB effective date. Under the new criteria, no college-level education is required to obtain a Licensed Residential appraiser credential.

TALCB Announces Extension For All License Holders Affected By Hurricane Harvey

In the wake of Hurricane Harvey, the Texas Real Estate Commission and the Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board (the Agency) extended all deadlines for two months for all license holders and applicants statewide with license expiration or application deadlines in August and September. This extension ended on October 31, 2017.

Requesting Active and Inactive Appraiser Trainee Status

Once you have your license, TALCB rules allow you to request Inactive or Active status for the license. This may be useful if your career changes direction and you wish to keep your license but not actively perform appraisals for a period of time.

Prior to filing your application, you need to find a Certified General or Certified Residential Appraiser licensed in Texas to act as your supervisor.

Renew Your Licensed Residential Appraiser

As a Licensed Residential Appraiser, you must renew your license every two years. A renewal notice will be sent out about 90 days before your expiration date. You may renew your license up to six months after the expiration date. After six months, you may apply for reinstatement of your license.
