Renew Your Certified General Appraiser
As a Certified General Appraiser, you must renew your license every two years. A renewal notice will be sent out about 90 days before your expiration date. You may renew your license up to six months after the expiration date. After six months, you may apply for reinstatement of your license.
What do I have to do to renew my General Certification?
- Complete 28 hours of approved appraiser continuing education (ACE) courses during the two year license period, which must include a 7 hour National USPAP Update course. Use the ACE Course search tool to see a list of currently approved providers and courses. After completing your course work, you are welcome to submit a course evaluation.
- Supervisory Appraisers must complete an approved Appraiser Trainee/Supervisory Appraiser course within four years of your current license expiration date to continue to supervise or relationships with your Appraiser Trainees will be terminated and Appraiser Trainees with one supervisor will be made inactive.
If you have not submitted your fingerprints for TALCB or TREC with a previous renewal or application, you must be fingerprinted for a criminal background check.

- Include payment of the renewal fee.
Renewal is only available 90 days before the expiration date of the license. All requirements for renewal must be postmarked no later than the expiration date.
A license holder who is unable to complete the 28 hours of continuing education may request an extension of education requirements by renewing the license AND submitting the ACE Extension Request form along with an additional $200.00 fee.
An extension must be submitted by the expiration date. Persons granted a 60-day extension may not perform appraisals in federally-related transactions and will be reported as non-AQB compliant on the National Registry. The education must be completed within 60 days of the extension expiration date or the certification will automatically be placed on inactive status and supervision of any trainees will be terminated. Completion of the required ACE courses must be reflected in the license holder's electronic license record.

- If the certification is expired for six months or less, the Renewal of Appraiser Certification form with the renewal fee.
Requesting Active Status
- Satisfy 28 hours of appraiser continuing education for each two-year renewal period the certification has been inactive, which must include the 7-hour National USPAP Update course.
- Submit the Request for Active status.
- Pay the required National Registry fee and active status fee.
If your license has been expired more than six months, you may apply for reinstatement of the license by submitting the Application for Reinstatement and meeting the following education and experience requirements.
- Complete 14 hours of appraiser continuing education for each year since the last renewal of your previous license.
- Submit experience logs demonstrating a minimum of 10 non-residential appraisal reports representing at least 300 hours of residential real estate appraisal experience.
- All appraisal experience claimed must be verifiable and supported. If your license has been expired more than 5 years or you do not have work files, you may apply for an Appraiser Trainee authorization to gain the minimum experience required.
