AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board (TALCB) is accepting applications to become an approved Mentor for TALCB. Volunteering to become a Mentor is a way for an experienced appraiser to serve the public interest and contribute to the appraisal profession by working one-on-one with appraisers required to complete remedial training and education. Mentors agree to serve for a two-year period and are a key component of the agency's process to ensure appraiser competence.
Individuals interested in becoming a Mentor must have 10+ years of experience as a Texas certified residential or certified general appraiser. Candidates must also be in good standing in Texas and any other state where licensed or certified, with no disciplinary history. Applicants must be either: 1.) certified as a USPAP instructor, or 2.) hold a recognized appraiser professional designation and be approved to teach courses required to obtain that designation. Candidates must also be willing to perform at least 32 hours per year of individualized mentorship sessions.
To apply, candidates must submit a completed application form, including a cover letter and signed Mentor appointment agreement. Applications must be submitted by email to Dione Frederick at firstname.lastname@example.org or sent by mail to PO Box 12188, Austin, TX 78711-2188. Completed applications must be received not later than January 4, 2019 for consideration by the Board at their next meeting in February.
