The Texas Appraiser Licensing and Certification Board (TALCB) met on August 8, 2025, with a new chair, two new members, and a new vice chair. Packed into their agenda were committee appointments, legislative updates, adopted and proposed rule changes, and a federal requirement that takes effect soon for all appraisers and appraiser applicants.
The Board may accept a course of study to satisfy pre-licensing education requirements for certification or licensing established by the Act or by the rules if the Board has determined that the course is related to real estate appraisal and was offered by an accredited college or university, or was approved by the Appraiser Qualification Board under its course approval process as a qualifying education course.
Any person applying for or renewing a license with TALCB must provide fingerprints for a criminal history check. The fingerprint process is easy and can be done in a few short steps.
When applying for your license, you will automatically be authorized for a fingerprinting appointment; please check your email for further instructions. Previously registered users can access the Fingerprint Enrollment tool within the REALM Portal application area.

As a Certified Residential Appraiser, you must renew your license every two years. A renewal notice will be sent out about 90 days before your expiration date. You may renew your license up to six months after the expiration date. After six months, you may apply for reinstatement of your license.
