The Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) arm of The Appraisal Foundation (TAF), authorized by The Appraisal Subcommittee (ASC), has extended a temporary alternative to courses approved for classroom delivery through December 31, 2021.

Temporary Alternatives to ACE Classroom Courses

ACE providers of classroom courses originally approved in a traditional classroom setting may offer ACE courses remotely via distance education, without the delivery mechanism approval set forth in Section III.D.3 “Generic Education Criteria” of the Real Property Appraiser Qualification Criteria, subject to the following:

  • The course offering is currently approved for traditional classroom presentation;
  • The platform utilized for distance education is live and interactive;
  • The instructor verifies photo identification of the students; and
  • The instructor maintains an attendance roster, which includes verifying 100% classroom attendance by, for example, taking attendance at various established times during the course.

Temporary Alternatives to Qualifying Classroom Courses

Providers of qualifying courses originally approved in a traditional classroom setting may offer courses remotely via distance education, without the delivery mechanism approval set forth in Section III.D.3 “Generic Education Criteria” of the Real Property Appraiser Criteria, subject to the following:

  • The course offering is currently approved for traditional classroom presentation;
  • The platform utilized for distance education is live and interactive;
  • The instructor verifies photo identification of the students;
  • The instructor maintains an attendance roster, which includes verifying 100% classroom attendance by, for example, taking attendance at various established times during the course; and
  • The examination required for QE under Generic Education Criteria, III.E.7. remains in place as written. Courses intended for use as qualifying education must include a written, closed-book final examination (proctored by an official approved by the college or university, or by the sponsoring organization). The term “written” refers to an exam that might be written on paper or administered electronically on a computer workstation or other device. Oral exams are not acceptable.

The AQB has extended this relief to Trainee/Supervisory courses as well.

Detailed questions about the Criteria should be directed to the AQB for additional guidance
